Guidelines for supported and unsupported uses of the Trade Me API
These are general guidelines only. We retain the right to approve or decline applications for API access at our discretion. See Terms and Conditions for more detail.
We'll generally support:
- In-trade sellers who want to list their own products on Trade Me Marketplace and receive updates on their listings via the API. The Trade Me API exists for in-trade sellers to manage their own listings on Trade Me Marketplace. It is not available for personal or non-commercial use. Learn more about what it means to be an in-trade seller.
We generally won't support:
- A competing offer with Trade Me.
- Exporting or scraping Trade Me data.
- Combing or presenting Trade Me data alongside listings from other sites, or used in data mining, data aggregation systems, price comparison services, or other similar situations where listings are not used to provide an extension of the services Trade Me currently provides.
- Duplication of existing Trade Me functionality.
- Personal or non-commercial use, including casual selling, price monitoring, and buyer-side tools.
- Applications built on top of the API to serve non-in-trade users (e.g. tools that help casual sellers list, or help buyers bid on or monitor listings), even if the application itself is commercial.
- Testing or training of people or systems.
- Vague or insufficient information.
